Post reviews, thoughts, photos, etc. here. This is the set list from Friday along with my notes:

1. ELT
2. A Shot in the Arm
3. Side with the Seeds
4. You Are My Face
5. I Am Trying to Break Your Heart
6. Pot Kettle Black
7. At Least That's What You Said
8. What's the World Got In Store (Pat Sansone on non-ironic banjo)
9. When the Roses Bloom Again (fr. the Chelsea Walls soundtrack)
10. Airline to Heaven
11. Ashes of American Flags
12. Either Way
13. Jesus, Etc.
14. Too Far Apart
15. Can't Stand It
16. Sunken Treasure
17. Spiders (Kidsmoke)

Intermission (15 minutes)

18. Misunderstood
19. Far, Far Away
20. Why Would You Wanna Live?
21. Impossible Germany
22. Sky Blue Sky
23. Please Be Patient with Me
24. Cars Can't Escape
25. Hummingbird

Encore:
26. Hate It Here
27. Walken
28. I'm the Man Who Loves You
29. Heavy Metal Drummer
30. Candyfloss
31. Outtasite (Outta Mind)

Holy shit, I've never seen them do so much material in one show. They started at 8:30pm and went until 11:20pm with just the 15 minute intermission and less than 5 minutes between the second set and the encore. It didn't seem like they pulled out too many rarities at this show and I expect tonight's set will stay pretty much within the recent Wilco set list canon, too. I'm expecting more deep cuts at the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday shows.

We were, unfortunately, standing behind a foursome of inebriated bros with personal space and talking issues. Our neighbor got them to shut up a little bit during the quieter songs. As the set wore on, I took the "If You Can't Beat 'Em, Join 'Em" approach and began exchanging high fives at key points (largely for the benefit of ALady's amusement). This approach backfired near the end of the encore when the bro in the baseball cap turned around, grabbed my head and planted a relatively sloppy kiss on my cheek. At least I didn't get licked like his bald friend did and thankfully they didn't try to lure me back to their bro pad with promises of Jack Johnson music and GameCube.

Goal for Saturday: NO BROS!

Saturday night's Wilco show featured one of the rarest of concert moments: the true encore. As we all know, most bands plan on doing their encore in advance and know exactly what they're going to play on any given night.

After the band had played a killer 30 song set (with a 15 minute intermission), Jeff Tweedy said goodnight and he meant it. The post-show music came up, the house lights were turned on, the roadies switched off the amplifiers and no one budged. The audience was quite literally demanding an encore. Cheering loudly, clapping in rhythm with the post-show music ("Peaches" by POTUSA?!?!) and not going ANYWHERE. The post-show music was turned up a notch or two, MORE house lights came on, Tweedy's wife left her box seat and the backdrop curtain was raised so the roadies could begin to bring out the tarp to cover the equipment. No one was taking the hint. Suddenly, Sue Miller re-appears in her box, the backdrop goes back down, the lights get turned back off and the band reappears to launch into "ELT" and finish up with an impromptu "Hoodoo Voodoo" (with Tweedy taking a moment to jokingly complain that the equilibrium of the residency was being thrown off).

All in all, it was a remarkable show that was even better than the night before. Highlights included Andrew Bird sitting in on fiddle for 8 songs, the first ever live performance of "Dash 7" by the band and John Stirratt crooning his lone Wilco song, "It's Just That Simple" (with Tweedy on bass!) and receiving a thunderous ovation afterwards. People would not stop cheering until he gave a humble wave to acknowledge his shining moment.

Saturday night set list:
1. Someone Else's Song
2. Hell Is Chrome
3. Handshake Drugs
4. Muzzle of Bees
5. Via Chicago
6. I Am Trying to Break Your Heart*
7. Hotel Arizona
8. A Shot in the Arm*
9. Impossible Germany*
10. It's Just That Simple
11. When You Wake Up Feeling Old
12. Too Far Apart*
13. Hate It Here*
14. Jesus, Etc.* (w/ Andrew Bird)
15. Forget the Flowers (w/ AB)
16. Dash 7 (w/ AB)
17. Christ for President (w/ AB)
18. Walken*
19. I'm the Man Who Loves You*

Intermission

20. The Late Greats
21. Heavy Metal Drummer*
22. Red-Eyed and Blue (w/ AB)
23. I Got You (At the End of the Century)
24. A Magazine Called Sunset
25. Monday
26. Casino Queen
27. Kingpin
28. Passenger Side (w/ AB)
29. Dreamer in My Dreams (w/ AB)
30. The Lonely 1 (w/ AB)

Encore:
31. ELT*
32. Hoodoo Voodoo

* - Repeats from Friday night.

As you can see, there was a heavy emphasis on Being There. Fifteen of the nineteen songs from that record have now been performed between the two nights, nine of which were played last night.

It's a good thing they took last night off. Daddy's tired!

Whoa! What up with that?

He should be banished to the back of the room.

Really inconsiderate.

Awesome, awesome, awesome.  Thanks for sharing all the pertinent details, Matt, even if I'm green with envy right now.

The problem with mocking the inebriated brosephs always seems to be that they're not cognizant of the fact that anyone COULD be annoyed by their high-fivin' MFer ways, so they just figure you're on the same wavelength with them.  I've had the exact same thing happen to me at a MMJ show a couple of years back.  Everyone's in on the good times as far as they're concerned!

Both of those shows sound awesome.

I didn't realize they were doing repeats though.

I hope they play "Just a Kid" from the Spongebob Squarepants Movie soundtrack. Not because I'm going, but because it's an awesome song and they should play it live more often.

I hope they play "Just a Kid" from the Spongebob Squarepants Movie soundtrack. Not because I'm going, but because it's an awesome song and they should play it live more often.

Their six studio albums plus songs from the three EPs from the last three records (not including Mermaid Avenue Vols. 1 & 2) amount to 93 original songs. Add in the Mermaid Avenue songs where Tweedy sings lead and that's about another dozen or so. They did the one song from Chelsea Walls soundtrack and there's one other tune on that record attributed to Wilco (not just Tweedy). There are another 16 or so B-sides, unreleased tracks and soundtrack contributions as far as I can tell.

So that sums up to 123 tunes, give or take. Which means they'd have to have some repeats if they're playing 30 songs a night, but there were more repeats on Saturday than I expected. It will be interesting to see what tonight, tomorrow and Wednesday are like. I'm guessing there will be more rarities, but who knows?

Apparently they played "Just a Kid" (with The Blissters) when I saw them at The Vic in May 2005, but I have no recollection of that at all.

I'll be there tonight. It's a shame they already played most of Being There, though.

I am sooooo jealous of those who attended.  I tried for hours upon hours to get tickets.  I wasn't willing to pay scalpers prices.  Wilco is coming into their own right now.

If they were at Lolla this year I would be like a pig in a candy store.  They could easily be a headliner or a headliner opener.

Gosh i am envious discountsounds

i saw them last june at bonnaroo and again in october

the october show i saw was probably among the top 5 shows i've EVER SEEN. It was in this great auditorium right on campus (at the Ohio State University)

He went 2 1/2 hours, with Andrew Bird opening with an hour set or so and accompanying on Jesus, Etc., which was a treat for sure

Tweedy showed up in this Elvis-esque white suit that was just plain balla'

they only had a 16 song main set, but with two amazing 4 and 5 song encores, at one point i just wondered can this get any better?

my friend and i walked home with the biggest grins on our face.

I shall console myself with the fact that I'll be seeing Wilco in Houston just about 18 days from now. It's not much but it's all I've got.
